Death Note is heading to Netflix in August, and director Adam Wingard (The Guest) has taken to Twitter to share an official poster for the upcoming movie.
Based on Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata’s Japanese manga, Death Note stars Nat Wolff (The Fault in Our Stars) as Light
Yagami Turner, Margaret Qualley (The Nice Guys,) as Mia Sutton, Lakeith Stanfield (Straight Outta Compton) as L, Paul Nakauchi (Alpha and Omega) as Watari and Shea Whigham (Agent Carter) as James Turner.
The manga adaptation also stars Willem Dafoe as Ryuk, the Death Note character the actor will lend his pipes to. Although we saw a tiny peek of Ryuk in the teaser, it’s the first time we actually get to see what the character will look like in the streaming giant’s live-action movie. Check out the synopsis:
Death Note follows a high school student who comes across a supernatural notebook [called a Death Note], realizing it holds within it a great power; if the owner inscribes someone’s name into it while picturing their face, he or she will die. Intoxicated with his new godlike abilities, the young man begins to kill those he deems unworthy of life.
For those unfamiliar with Death Note, Ryuk is a Shigami (aka a Grim Reaper), an extra-dimensional being who kills humans in order to extend his own life. It is through him that Light
Yagami Turner gets a Death Note when, bored with the Shigami Realm, Ryuk decides to have a bit of fun by unleashing the supernatural notebook into the human world.
Death Note will premiere on Netflix on August 25. Have a look at the teaser before digging into the poster below.
