Netflix has released a glorious full trailer, a cool featurette and new images for director Adam Wingard’s (The Guest) Death Note.
Based on the hit Japanese manga created by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, the Netflix movie stars Nat Wolff (The Fault in Our Stars) as Light Turner, Margaret Qualley (The Nice Guys) as Mia Sutton, Lakeith Stanfield (Straight Outta Compton) as “L,” Paul Nakauchi (Alpha and Omega) as Watari, Shea Whigham (Agent Carter) as James Turner and Willem Dafoe as Ryuk the Shinigami (the creature in the trailer). Roy Lee (The Ring) and Dan Lin (Sherlock Holmes) are producing with Jason Hoffs and Heroes’ Masi Oka.
The new trailer offers more background info about the mythology of the supernatural notebook, how it works and what Light Turner does with it. You know what happens when one gets Drunk With Godlike Powers? Yep. Mayhem ensues. This time of the mass murder kind. As for the featurette, it boasts interviews with cast and crew and offers another great sneak peek at the movie. From what I can see below, I'm getting really excited about Adam Wingard's adaptation of the manga series!
Death Note follows a high school student who comes across a supernatural notebook, realizing it holds within it a great power; if the owner inscribes someone’s name into it while picturing their face, he or she will die. Intoxicated with his new godlike abilities, the young man begins to kill those he deems unworthy of life.
Death Note will debut on Netflix on August 25. (Scroll all the way down for the new images.)
