With reports flying all over that he's developing a Samurai-styled Star Wars standalone film, director Zack Snyder has now addressed the report head-on. So is it true?
Apparently not. After Vulture broke the story that Snyder (300, Watchmen) was allegedly working on a spinoff Star Wars series set outside the new trilogy and based onThe Seven Samurai, the director issued a statement via The Hollywood Reporter saying it's completely false.
Here's the comment, via Snyder's publicist:
"While he is super flattered because he is a huge fan, Zack is not involved in any way with the new Star Wars. He is currently in post on his two films, Man of Steel and 300: Battle of Artemisia."Looks like we'll have to keep waiting to hear exactly what's next in the Star Wars universe. But you have to wonder if the original report was just completely off base, or perhaps the project is on the table—just not with Snyder at the helm.
We know Disney wants to start cranking out Star Wars films regularly, and this sounds like a pretty compelling offshoot idea. I suppose time will tell if there is any truth to it at all.
Do you wish this project would come to fruition? If not Snyder, who would you want calling the shots behind the camera?
