It was on this day in 1996 that we were blessed with this insanity:

Based on the cult trading card game from the early '60s, Mars Attacks! was directed by Tim Burton and starred … just about everyone. It had Jack Nicholson, Glenn Close, Annette Bening, Michael J. Fox, Sarah Jessica Parker, Martin Short, Natalie Portman, Lucas Haas, Danny DeVito, Tom Jones … and, like, so many more!

That ending, though …

It was also on this day in 1961 that the delightfully screwy The Phantom Planet premiered.

And it was on this day in 1977 that Man From Atlantis premiered on NBC. It ran for 13 episodes and starred Patrick Duffy as a man with amnesia who has weird superhuman strengths and is likely the last person to survive the lost city of Atlantis.

Interestingly, in 2016, Patrick Duffy wrote a novel called Man From Atlantis. Not about his time on the show, but about the actual character. Science fiction! Get in there, readers.

Tomorrow: Dune and Starman.
