With Ash vs. Evil Dead making a killing on Starz, it shouldn’t come as a surprise other networks would want to cash in on the evil dead craze. Enter Stan Against Evil, a new TV series set to premiere in less than a month on IFC, and we have a NYCC 2016 trailer and some images to share.
The half-hour horror-comedy series stars John C. McGinley (Scrubs) as a former small-town sheriff who has to team up with the new sheriff in town, played by Janet Varney (You’re the Worst, The Legend of Korra), when he finds himself thrust into the role of demon hunter. Together, they must battle some 172 freshly released demons and witches hell-bent on wreaking hellish havoc on the town.
Created by stand-up comedian Dana Gould (The Simpsons), Stan Against Evil will have a panel later today at New York Comic Con (at 5:15 p.m., in Room 1A06, to be exact), where those in attendance will be treated to a special screening of the first episode. Gould, McGinley and Varney will also be sitting in for a Q&A, so be prepared to ask all the hard questions!
Check out the new trailer (which is giving me all the Ash vs. Evil Dead feels mixed in with some Z Nation) and dig into the demonic gallery of pics below.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Stan Against Evil follows Stan Miller (McGinley), a perpetually disgruntled former sheriff of a small New England town who was forced into retirement. Stan has trouble relinquishing his authority to Evie Barret (Varney), the tough and beautiful new sheriff in town, but they form an unlikely alliance when both begin to realize things are not quite right in their quaint New England town. Together, they valiantly fight a plague of unleashed demons that have been haunting the town, which just happens to be built on the site of a massive 17th century witch burning.
Stan Against Evil will kick off with the show's first two episodes on Nov. 2 on IFC.
