Fox is gearing up to bring one of the scariest films ever made to the small screen, and unveiled a freaky new trailer for The Exorcist at San Diego Comic-Con.

The series is, of course, based on the acclaimed horror film that is essentially distilled nightmare fuel. The show looks to string that concept out to a long-form story, focusing on a young priest (Alfonso Herrera) who enlists the help of an old(er) priest (Ben Daniels) to help a mother (Geena Davis) who is worried her daughter might be possessed. The trailer helps set the stakes, and includes some freaky, jump scare moments that would be right at home in a Blumhouse film.

As for the series itself, the pilot does a serviceable job of establishing this world and these characters, and though it’s not ground-breaking, it manages to do enough that you’ll probably want to come back to see where the story goes next. Is that enough for a full season of television? Only time will tell.

But, in the meantime, the new trailer from SDCC is worth a few good scares.

The Exorcist premieres Sept. 23 on Fox.
