The cast of The CW’s Flash is getting a whole lot bigger this fall, and a few of those new additions are just as far as Barry Allen. So how will they keep the focus on our original Flash?

Executive producer Gabrielle Stanton chatted with TV Line about what fans can expect for the next season, and teased “it’s always Barry’s journey,” and though they’ll be mixing it up with alt-versions of The Flash in Jay Garrick (Teddy Sears) and Wally West (Keiynan Lonsdale), she said they’ll serve as a mirror for “different ways that The Flash can be.”

In regards to Jay Garrick, Stanton reiterated previous reports that he’ll be the new mentor for Barry this year. Garrick will be coming from an alternate universe, to warn Team Flash about an impending threat. As for Wally West? We still don’t know how he fits into the narrative, though Stanton promised “a very interesting relationship” between Wally and Barry.

Last but not least, Stanton offered up some details on Season 2’s new baddie Zoom. She was quick to put some fan fears to rest, noting the character will be very different from Eobard Thawne. In the comics, the characters have sometimes been portrayed as very similar, but Stanton promises this version of Zoom is “scary as hell.”  Here’s an excerpt from her comments on Zoom:

“Zoom is going to be very different in terms of motivation, in terms of what he wants from The Flash, in terms of why he’s doing what he’s doing. I know a lot of people are thinking, ‘[Zoom and Reverse Flash] were so similar in the comics. What’s going to make them different?’ I guarantee no one will confuse him for one second with what we did last year. It’s actually much more different than people would think.”

The second season of The Flash debuts October 6 on The CW.
