The CW's fantasy-adventure series The Outpost has been renewed for a second season; a debut sci-fi novel has been optioned; and a sci-fi pitch has been bought following a bidding war in this edition of Development Roundup.

First up, The CW has announced that it has picked up The Outpost for a second season. The fantasy series created by Kynan Griffin and Jason Faller and overseen by executive producers Dean Devlin (The Librarians) and Jonathan Glassner (Stargate SG-1) stars Jessica Green as Talon, the lone survivor of her race, who’s out for vengeance.

Talon has fantastic supernatural powers and needs to learn how to control them. But while learning how to master her powers, she must also forge an alliance with a queen who’s been in hiding to defend the world against a fanatical religious dictator. Jake Stormoen (Extinct, Mythica), Imogen Waterhouse (Nocturnal Animals, Braid) and Anand Desai-Barochia (The Tiger Hunter, Emmerdale) co-star.

The second season of The Outpost is set to air in Summer 2019.

Next, Stampede Ventures, the media company formed by former Warner Bros. president Greg Silverman, has just optioned the film and television rights to Sam Marsden’s debut novel Under Glass, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed. The futuristic thriller is set in a colony on Mars and centers on Eva Knight, the 17-year-old daughter of the colony’s president. Eva hates living on Mars and dreams of escaping to Earth. When the Martian government executes her brother publicly, Eva must choose between accepting her mother's path for her as becoming a future dictator or joining the resistance.

"Sam has crafted an incredibly futuristic world that explores the best of science and the depths of humanity with extraordinary, relatable characters," said Silverman in a statement issued on Tuesday.

This deal follows last month’s announcement that Stampede acquired the movie rights to the unpublished sci-fi novel Devastation Class, co-written by filmmakers Glen Zipper and Elaine Mongeon.

And finally, Deadline is reporting that following a competitive bid, Black Bear Pictures (The Imitation Game, Mudbound) has won the rights to Remission, a science fiction pitch that Michael Lloyd Green is writing as his next project.

No further information about what Remission is about could be learned. Green’s manager told SYFY WIRE that there's no logline currently available, so we'll just have to wait and see what the story turns out to be.

Recently, Green sold his sci-fi pitch The Revisionist to eOne with Hutch Parker producing. His previous script, I Am Mother, which made the 2016 Black List, was greenlit by RHEA Films and is in post-production with Hilary Swank starring opposite Clara Rugaard and Rose Byrne voicing the Weta Workshop-designed robot.
