Good news for all those who like to embrace their inner child (or have actual children) as two kid-friendly classics are getting the sequel the treatment.
First up, we need to address that despite it being almost 20 years since the first flick, Chicken Run is getting a long-awaited second installment, according to The Hollywood Reporter. StudioCanal and Pathe are helping produce the follow-up to the 2000 original, and it’s amazing that they didn’t think to do it sooner, considering it is still the most successful stop-motion-animated feature of all time (having grossed $224,834,564 on a $45million budget.)
British animation studio Aardman Animations are the ones hard at work on the sequel, who are famous for producing the Oscar-winning clay animation comedy series Wallace & Gromit. There’s no word yet on whether directors Nick Park (the creator of Wallace & Gromit) and Peter Lloyd will be back at the helm, but be sure to expect a starry voice cast, which featured Mel Gibson (among others) last time around.
Elsewhere, according to SlashFilm, Paramount Animation has revealed that a third SpongeBob SquarePants movie is happening. Presumably a spin on the classic It’s a Wonderful Life, the new movie is humorously titled It’s a Wonderful SpongeBob, although plot details are being kept under wraps for now. Per the report, the first film's screenwriter Tim Hill will be both writing and directing the sequel.
The movie isn’t set to hit theatres until 2020, and follows The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie (2004) and Sponge Out of Water (2015), which both performed well at the box office.
