Just in time for Halloween, The Ringer Podcast Network launches a Halloween-themed podcast. Called Halloween: Unmasked and hosted by MTV News and The Washington Post journalist Amy Nicholson, the podcast will focus on John Carpenter's 1978 classic film, as well as touching on sequels. Nicholson will interview filmmakers, critics, and fans, as well as preview the newest Halloween reboot, directed by David Gordon Green, which opens in theaters October 19. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Halloween: Unmasked will launch on October 1, and runs for eight episodes.
Lionsgate is going into development on a horror film called Cobweb, written by Chris Thomas Devlin. Variety reports it was purchased as a spec by the studio, Cobweb is about a boy whose abusive parents tells him the voices that he hears are all in his head. But the voices are all too real, and coming from within the walls of his house - and the boy wants to free them. Lionsgate will coproduce with Vertigo Entertainment. Roy Lee and Joe Berg from Vertigo are in talks to produce. Last week, Lionsgate vice chairman Michael Burns promised that Lionsgate would "make a splash" in the horror arena. "We used to own horror," Burns said. "We're going to own it again."
Deadline reports Deadmau5 is getting into the film scoring business. The Canadian musician and producer will be scoring Polar, a "noir-tinged" project based on a comic called Polar: Came From the Cold. Written and drawn by Victor Santos, Polar started on the web, then was published as a graphic novel by Dark Horse Entertainment. The winter-set story tells the tale of The Black Kaiser, a retired assassin who is double-crossed by his former employers. Starring Mads Mikkelsen, Vanessa Hudgens, Kathryn Winnick, and Matt Lucas, Polar is directed by Jonas Akerlund and will release on Netflix in 2019.
