Development: Stan Against Evil canned; Nightbreed TV planned; Lego Movie comes to Legoland

Mixed news for horror fans and exciting news for LEGO fans dominate this development roundup, so where fans find themselves in this particular Venn diagram, there should be something to excite them.

First, some sad news from IFC. According to Stan Against Evil creator and co-star Dana Gould, Stan Against Evil has been cancelled. On his podcast, The Dana Gould Hour, Gould revealed that the small town horror-comedy ended with its third season.

“Stan Against Evil, I am sad to report, will not be returning for a fourth season,” said Gould. “It had a great run of three seasons. It’s not coming back. Will it show up in some other form on some other network someday? Maybe. But right now, as we like to say, it’s dead as Kelsey’s nuts.” The uncertain language regarding its return could refer to a media shift considered back when Gould held interviews at last year’s New York Comic Con and bandied around the idea of a comic book or podcast continuation.

And it might be a while for fans to wait. “The show’s on Hulu, you can enjoy it. It ain’t comin’ back anytime soon, but that is -as they say- showbiz, and I’m already working on some other cool crap that will hopefully come your way,” Gould concluded.

However, in happier horror news, Clive Barker’s Nightbreed TV show is moving forward. The show will work with the same outsider monster material from the writer’s novella “Cabal” which also served as the source for the 1990 movie.

Barker gave an update on his official website, saying that “Nightbreed is moving forward at quite a rate with a couple of very well-known directors showing a great deal of interest in it” and that they are currently “putting the team together.” While development hasn’t started past the very early stages, Barker explains that they “have a writer, director, producers and now that the New Year has begun we’ll all get together and start to plan the long-term narrative, not just the opening narrative which is what we’ve done so far.” Look for more development information on this one soon.

Finally, in a bit of a tonal switch, Florida’s Legoland is adding an area based on the Lego Movies as the sequel to the surprise hit heads towards theaters. According to a release, The Lego Movie World will feature a Triple Decker Couch-based ride that allows guests to “fly” through a large digital dome, while Unikitty's Disco Drop is a shifting experience based on the character’s fluctuating moods. The third ride, a water attraction called Battle of Bricksburg, challenges riders “to stop DUPLO aliens from invading and stealing LEGO bricks by spraying water at targets from their boats.”

Some other features from the films, like Taco Tuesday Everyday and a playground inspired by Benny's spaceship, will also be included in the area. As The Lego Movie influences also appear in the actual rooms guests can stay at, it seems like the resort’s dedication is thorough and yes, awesome.
