Did getting ousted as Banner give Eric Bana a Hulk-like rage?

At New York Comic Con over the weekend, Aussie actor Eric Bana helped introduce footage from his upcoming spy thriller Hanna. But later we talked to him about Mark Ruffalo taking over the role as Bruce Banner/The Hulk in The Avengers (and possibly in a fourth solo Hulk film) and losing the part himself. Wouldn't you?

While it's been seven years since Bana's turn as the gamma radiation victim, we wondered whether he had any lingering feelings about being replaced after 2003's Hulk by Ed Norton.

"Nothing ever went down," Bana offered with a shrug. "It was just a natural occurrence of events. I guess there was a fair gap between the first one and the second one. I was never really in a position where I was 'on' for the second one, so I didn't suddenly feel like I'm not a part of it. By the time the second one came along, I was in Toronto shooting Time Traveler's Wife while they were in town shooting The Incredible Hulk at the same time. It never really felt like anything good or bad either way."

Then, with a twinkle in his eye, Bana smiled and added, "But in a way I think it's kind of cool that so far, each time out, there's been someone different, so that might be its legacy—that there might be someone else for the fourth time. He's mutating into different actors."

"It's original," he added, laughing.
