The first trailer for BBC America’s new original series Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency has arrived, giving us a peek at the small screen adaptation of Douglas Adams’ beloved novel.

The first footage introduces us to stars Samuel Barnett as Dirk Gently and Elijah Wood as his reluctant assistant Todd. But, this isn’t your traditional procedural-esque partnership. Barnett’s Gently is a huge mess of quirky, and Wood wants to make it very clear he is not the Watson to this would-be private detective. It’s hard to get a read on the dynamic, but these two certainly seem to have a good chemistry.

When we chatted with Max Landis about the first season, he said the first season is essentially a “love story” between Dirk and Todd, as they build their friendship and use it to crack cases. If nothing else, the vibe seems fun, like a Pushing Daisies meets Sherlock type of thing.

Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency premieres October 22 on BBC America.
