“We are beyond proud of this brilliant original series and so appreciative of the outstanding team behind it including Max Landis, Samuel Barnett, Elijah Wood, and many many others,” the channel said in a statement, per Variety. “It was a privilege to work with this talented and passionate group of writers, producers and actors on these two seasons of Dirk. Thanks also to the passionate fans who embraced this fantastically novel world.”
Based on the Douglas Adams novel of the same name, Dirk Gently follows the adventures of the eponymous private investigator who investigates cases based on the "interconnectivity of all things." The show was a blend of sci-fi, detective, and comedy tropes.
The cancellation comes four months after BBC aired the final episode of cult sci-fi series Orphan Black. This isn't the first Dirk Gently TV series, though: BBC Four produced four episodes of a show simply called Dirk Gently that aired between 2010 and 2012.
