We’ve been wondering what Disney would do after pulling the plug on the beloved animated series Star Wars: Clone Wars, and now we know. Prepare to meet the Rebels!
The company has announced plans to launch a new series dubbed Star Wars: Rebels, which will debut in the fall of 2014 as a new series for Disney XD. As was rumored, the series will bridge the gap between Episodes III-IV, and judging by the synopsis it sounds like some ripe territory to mine.
The action-filled series is set between the events of Episode III and IV -- an era spanning almost two decades never-before explored on-screen. Star Wars Rebels takes place in a time where the Empire is securing its grip on the galaxy and hunting down the last of the Jedi Knights as a fledgling rebellion against the Empire is taking shape. Details about the show are a closely guarded secret at this point.
Behind the scenes, the series will be producer by Simon Kinberg (X-Men: First Class, Sherlock Holmes), Dave Filoni (Star Wars: Clone Wars) and Greg Weisman (Young Justice, The Spectacular Spider-Man, Gargoyles). The company plans to debut the first teaser trailer in July, at the Star Wars Celebration in Europe.
Though it's nice to know Disney isn’t leaving too much of a gap between Clone Wars and this new project, the addition of Filoni should at least help ease the pain of losing the Emmy-nominated series. But the real question: When are we ever going to get to see those long-lost Clone Wars episodes?!
Are you interested in the pitch for this new series, or do you wish they’d just left Clone Wars on the air?
