Disney is showing no signs of stopping with the live-action adaptations of their classic 'toons as Niki Caro (Whale Rider, The Zookeeper's Wife) has officially signed on to direct the new take on the 1998 animated feature, Mulan.
With Mulan, Caro joins Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman) and Ava DuVernay (2018's A Wrinkle in Time) as a female filmmaker who's scored a tentpole blockbuster with a major studio.
The story is based on the ancient Chinese legend of Hua Mulan, an adolescent maiden who dresses as a man to gain entrance into the military to replace her aging warrior father. Disney is currently embarking on a global casting search for a young Chinese actress to play the title character, who was originally voiced by Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. star Ming-Na Wen.
Mulan will open on November 2, 2018. Is this oriental epic on your radar for next year?
