Disney has been snapping up properties left and right recently. And where there are new properties, there are going to be new lands within Disney properties.
Disney Parks Blog confirmed today that new superhero-themed areas will be coming to Disneyland, Disneyland Paris, and Disneyland Hong Kong. Disney says that "these three new areas will champion the next generation of Super Heroes."
At Anaheim's Disney California Adventure, they have already transformed the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror into Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: BREAKOUT! But now they are changing over the adjoining Bug's Life-themed area into all super heroes, all the time. The "It's Tough to Be A Bug" show has already closed, with the other, kiddie-sized rides closing in late summer. The blog states that Spider-Man and The Avengers will create a completely immersive Super Hero experience, which suggests that Spider-Man will not be included in whatever Avengers-themed attractions are opening.
There are no other specifics mentioned at the Disney Parks Blog, but they are already moving super heroes into the area. This past weekend, Captain America was doing photo ops, and Black Panther rolled through the streets in a big military vehicle, flanked by Dora Milaje. Frankly, a facelift of DCA is long overdue. The park, which opened in 2001, was initially meant to showcase the different aspects of California - in other words, give tourists the whole California experience without them having to leave Disney property. It was not very popular, and they have slowly been updating the park ever since. The park's Paradise Pier is in the process of being transformed into Pixar Pier, with the first attraction, The Incredibles Incredi-Coaster opening later this year.
In Disneyland Paris, visitors can look forward to a new hyper-kinetic adventure with Iron Man and their favorite Avenger. This ride will open in 2020, but if you can't wait, this summer will be the Marvel Summer of Super Heroes. From June 10 to September 30, "favorite heroes will take the stage for a brand new, live-action super-production featuring cutting-edge special effects and spectacular projections."
At Hong Kong Disneyland, the park is gearing up for a new themed area with an "exciting attraction" teaming visitors up with Ant-Man and The Wasp. There is no opening date on this adventure yet, but it will join the Iron Man Experience, which is now the park's most popular attraction since it opened in 2017. The entire expansion is expected to be completed by 2023.
