The Doctor may be heading to Trenzalore—for war and a regeneration—in the upcoming Doctor Who Xmas special, but not before Christmas dinner and a few laughs in these two new clips.

Released by the BBC, the first clip is from the yuletide special "The Time of the Doctor," where companion Clara (Jenna Coleman) begs our good ol’ Time Lord (Matt Smith) to play boyfriend to her family. He’s a bit rusty (don't worry, he'll glance at a manual) but rather excited to play the part. We’re ready to bet the whole thing'll probably be as hilarious as this looks right now.

The second clip features Who showrunner Steven Moffat teasing a resolution to some of the mysteries that have remained unresolved ever since Matt Smith’s first episode in “The Eleventh Hour.” Those include the cryptic “Silence Will Fall,” the creation of River Song (Alex Kingston) as a weapon to kill the Doctor, and why in the time vortex the TARDIS blew up way back in season five.

Have a look:

The Doctor Who Christmas special, “The Time of the Doctor,” will air on Christmas Day.
