We’d heard a while back that Tilda Swinton was in talks to co-star in Doctor Strange as The Ancient One, and now it sounds like they’ve apparently closed the deal. Even better? Swinton has a few hints about what we can expect from the most mystical Marvel movie yet.
Though Marvel has yet to actually confirm Swinton’s casting as Stephen Strange’s mentor, the actress told Screen Crush they’re “so far in talks” that they’re not really talking anymore. To put it simply: “It’s done.” After letting that cat out of the bag, Swinton went on to talk about what Marvel is cooking up with the Doctor Strange film. Hey, if she’s been talking that much, she’d have to know some plot detais, right?
Here’s an excerpt from Swinton’s comments:
"I just really liked the premise of this and the idea of playing this character. I’m a Marvel fan and I think this particular world that Doctor Strange goes into is really, really, really exciting. I’m really interested as both an actor and a fan to see what’s done in this particular world…It’s all about creativity. It’s not about everything exploding at the end. It’s about something very different. The idea of playing The Ancient One is really just too tickling. I can’t say no to that!"
Well, that’s interesting. Though Marvel has shown an affinity for breaking from the typical formula with risky flicks like Guardians of the Galaxy and this weekend’s Ant-Man, most of them stick relatively close to the tried and true Marvel framework (which is typically blowing stuff up at the end). But, according to this, it sounds like Doctor Strange could definitely buck that trend.
What do you think? What do you want to see from Doctor Strange?
