Looks like a former companion may return to the BBC series for Peter Capaldi’s swansong as the 12th Doctor.

According to The Mirror (so bucket of salt), Jenna Coleman will return as Clara (who was last seen heading for Gallifrey the "long way round" aboard a stolen TARDIS with Maisie Williams' Ashildr) for the upcoming Doctor Who Christmas special (featuring David Bradley as the First Doctor, as well as his TARDIS), which will both see showrunner Steven Moffat and Peter Capaldi  hand over the keys to the TARDIS to a new showrunner (in that case Chris Chibnall) and a new Doctor.

The site reports that sources have told them: “Jenna Coleman has agreed to film something new as Clara. It’s become a tradition now for the companions to reappear as the Doctor regenerates and Jenna isn’t letting the side down. It’ll help to give Peter the send-off he deserves after three years.”

Not only is Clara expected to return (don’t forget this is a RUMOR for now) for the multi-Doctor episode, but so are Bill (Pearl Mackie) and Nardole (Matt Lucas), although their storyline was more or less wrapped up during last weekend’s Season 10 finale. Apparently Bill will appear “in some form” during the Yuletide special, but neither she nor Nardole is expected to return for Season 11, when the Broadchurch showrunner takes over.

The Mirror’s sources say: “Bill and Nardole are due to get brief appearances but they could be clips or flashbacks from earlier episodes. Fans should accept this weekend’s finale was their big swansong.”

There you have it. What do you think? Would you like to see Clara return for Peter Capaldi’s swansong?
