Fans looking forward to Jodie Whittaker’s first series of timey-wimey adventures on Doctor Who will have to wait a while before seeing the Broadchurch actress tackle the iconic role full speed ahead.

Yes, Whittaker will make her debut in the closing moments of the upcoming Doctor Who Christmas special (which will feature David Bradley as the First Doctor, by the way), but it looks like we may have to wait until late 2018 before Season 11 materializes onto our TV screens, with new showrunner Chris Chibnall in tow.

The news come from departing showrunner Steven Moffat, who said in the latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine that he stayed on the BBC series until this year’s Yuletide special so that Chibnall would be available to steer the ship TARDIS, saying: “The alternative might have been to have had no Doctor Who at all between Christmas 2015 and the autumn of 2018.”

Which — even though this has yet to be confirmed by the BBC — jibes with recent rumors that Doctor Who will go back to airing its episodes in the fall instead of the spring. What say you about Season 11 possibly airing in late 2018?
