Every month, Netflix makes changes to its ever-popular Watch Instantly streaming service, and while that always means we have to say goodbye to some movies and shows, it also means new ones will arrive throughout the month. So, every month or so, we like to give you a heads-up about the various sci-fi, fantasy and supernatural horror movies and shows that'll be coming your way.

August brings with it a pretty good crop of new stuff, led by the most recent season of Doctor Who. Plus, catch up on Once Upon a Time before the new season, revisit classic Reading Rainbow, watch a couple of horror movies and more.

Take a look at the list below to see August's genre additions on Netflix.

Wing Commander (1999)

Is this adaptation of the classic space pilot game as bad as you remember it being? It might be time to find out.

Reading Rainbow (1983-present)

OK, so Reading Rainbow isn't really a genre show, but it does star LeVar Burton, who's been promoting reading now for more than 30 years, and it's almost guaranteed to trigger a warm fuzzy nostalgic feeling, so dive back in.

Children's Programming

Netflix is always pretty well-stocked with fantasy children's programming of all kinds, and this month four new movies and shows will be available for the kids. On Aug. 1, the 1999 animated movie Alvin and the Chipmunks Meet Frankenstein arrives, then on Aug. 14 the Ever After High special Way Too Wonderland and the new DreamWorks series DinoTrux land. Then, finally, the second season of the Netflix original Inspector Gadget series will arrive on Aug. 28.

ChronicCon, Episode 420: A New Dope (2013), Available August 3

This is a documentary, so it's not technically genre either, but if you're a stoner nerd, you might want to check out this San Diego Comic-Con documentary from comedian Doug Benson, featuring stoner nerd greats like Kevin Smith and Brian Posehn.

Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead (2015), Available August 4

If you're still not sick of zombies, you might want to try this acclaimed low-budget horror flick that's basically Mad Max meets the zombie apocalypse.

Doctor Who, Series 8 (2014), Available August 8

If you missed Peter Capaldi's first year in the TARDIS the first time around, you'll be able to catch it now, just in time to be ready for Series 9.

The Woman In Black 2: Angel of Death (2014), Available August 12

This sequel takes a big time jump to World War 2-era Britain, and follows an entirely new cast of characters as they encounter the titular spirit. It wasn't as well received as the first film, but if you're up for a ghost story, give it a try.

Seeking a Friend for the End of the World (2012), Available August 16

This film is really only a genre film in the sense that it's an "Asteroid Headed for Earth" movie, but who doesn't want to watch two hours of Steve Carell and Keira Knightley being charming?

Byzantium (2012), Available August 27

Director Neil Jordan mastered vampires with Interview With the Vampire, but he returned to the concept with this thriller about a mother/daughter pair of bloodsuckers that has a good chance of drawing you in with its beautiful darkness.

Once Upon a Time, Season 4 (2014-2015), Available August 28

If you missed all the Frozen stories and the rise of the evil queens on Once Upon a Time last season, you can catch up before Season 5 arrives.
