You can probably file this one under “Awesome Things That Will Never Happen,” but Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat is actually keen to cross his show over with Star Trek. He just has a few stipulations.

In an interview with Digital Spy, Moffat touched on the geek dream of bringing the Doctor and some of Starfleet’s greatest heroes together in some manner. Moffat said he’d work on a crossover “in a heartbeat,” though he would only sign off if it meant the Doctor could meet the original cast of main characters — i.e. Kirk, Spock, etc. Not some newbies (i.e. the cast of that upcoming TV series). Which, yeah, we tend to agree. If you’re going to do something weird and awesome, make it as great as possible.

Here’s an excerpt from his comments:

“If it crossed over with Star Trek, it would have to be real Star Trek. It would have to be Captain Kirk and Mr Spock. It has to be the Doctor meets Mr Spock - that's the one you want. I mean, would I do it? Yes, in a heartbeat. I think you might find the Americans a little bit trickier to deal with!”

Again, we’ll stress this is in no way, shape or form Steven Moffat saying we’re getting a crossover anytime soon/ever. But it’s already happened in the pages of a special IDW comic crossover (which is as oddly fantastic as you’d expect), so who knows? Stranger things have happened.

We wouldn’t expect this to pop up in the next season or two, but maybe as a Children in Need special down the line? Where there's a will, there's a way ...
