Director J.J. Abrams is busily filling out his burgeoning Star Trek 2 cast—he's already added guest stars Alice Eve and Peter Weller to the returning Enterprise crew—and he's tapped a bloke who's already got plenty of experience traveling through time and space.

Noel Clarke, who took some reluctant tours on the TARDIS as Rose Tyler's boyfriend Mickey Smith, is strapping in for some more sci-fi. According to Variety, Star Trek 2 will have Clarke playing a "family man with a wife and young daughter." (Specifics are for suckers.)

Aside from his Who experience, Clarke is a BAFTA-winning filmmaker who wrote an episode of Torchwood and co-starred alongside Michael Fassbender in Neil Marshall's Centurion. So he's been keeping busy, which is good.

Star Trek 2 will hit theaters on May 17, 2013.
