Does 5th Doctor's BBC meeting mean he'll be back for Who's 50th?

Will Peter Davison reprise his role as the Fifth Doctor?

Going into this story, we already know two things -- that Peter Davison has already been willing to revisit the Fifth Doctor, and, more importantly, that the BBC have been contacting former Who actors about the Doctor Who 50th anniversary. But is that enough to guarantee Davison's return?

Unfortunately, Davison does not seem incredibly hopeful for an official return.

I think we’ll be featured somewhere but I should think it’s probably footage lifted from older Doctor stories. I don’t know. We are doing some Big Finish audios. I know that there are events planned by the BBC. I’ve got a meeting with the head of BBC Wales when I get back to go through various things the BBC have got planned. I don’t think she’s going to offer me a part in it… I might be wrong.

So Davison's gut is telling him that a multi-Doctor story (or at least one featuring actors from the classic series) just isn't in the cards. There's still that Big Finish production that will bring back much of the classic cast. In addition, it seems Davison and some of the other classic actors might try and sneak in anyway.

I decided that if we weren’t going to be involved that I would get together with Colin [Baker] and Sylvester [McCoy] and make our own little special… If we can possible manage it, we’re going to get into the 50th anniversary special whether we’re invited or not!

An unofficial reunion created by a gang of original Doctors? Even if it's awful, that sounds great. In fact, maybe that's just what the 50th needs -- wobbly sets and people dressed up in aluminum playing at alien monsters. Sounds fun! What say you, Whovians -- you in?
