As Super Smash Bros. Ultimate hype gathers steam as it gears up towards release on the Nintendo Switch, it’s been doing what fans of the fighting game love most about the series: announce more iconic Nintendo characters to its already gigantic roster. The first entry of the series to be released on the Switch, Ultimate has already added Splatoon’s Inkling and Metroid’s Ridley as characters, but during today’s Smash-focused Nintendo Direct stream, the company announced a slew of new additions from some well-loved franchises.

First up was Castlevania’s vampire-hunting Simon Belmont and his brother, Richter. Both characters play the same way (the latter is dubbed an “echo” character) and you know Simon’s equipped with his iconic whip. How else would he release the items hiding in all the candlesticks lighting Dracula’s castle? And yes, that happens to be Belmont’s new stage.

That stage is just one of an enormous 103, which is by far the largest in Smash Bros. history. Another big-name fighter who’ll be making his debut on this plethora of locales is Donkey Kong’s main antagonist: King K. Rool.

The Kremling leader showed up for the first time in Donkey Kong Country, but he may be best remembered for his extensive boss fight in Donkey Kong 64. K. Rool is kind of a goober - as most Nintendo baddies are - so his teaser trailer sets him up to be a King Dedede-like buffoon...with a gun.

There were a few additional assist trophies from the stream (Shovel Knight!) and a few other echo fighters (Dark Samus and Chrom from Fire Emblem), but none are as silly and unique as K. Rool or as synonymous with a franchise as Belmont is with Castlevania. These two will make lasting additions to the brawler’s giant, yet beloved roster.

You can play as all these characters and more when Super Smash Bros. Ultimate hits the Switch on Dec. 7.
