Remember when Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist teamed up to defeat the Hand? Well, it might not happen anytime soon, if at all, said Marvel TV head honcho Jeph Loeb during a Reddit AMA in support of tonight's Cloak & Dagger premiere on Freeform. Sadly, he dashed any short-term hopes of a Defenders reunion on the streets of Manhattan.
When Redditor TheLoKey1 asked, "Will the Defenders get a 2nd season?" Loeb replied with "Not in the plans right now, but you never know!"
Disappointing, but not altogether unexpected. Defenders was billed as a limited miniseries in the first place, and it must have been somewhat of a nightmare to coordinate the schedules of Marvel's Manhattan stars, Charlie Cox, Mike Colter, Krysten Ritter, and Finn Jones. Figuring out a time when they could all film together may not have reached the difficulty level of Infinity War, but perhaps a fraction of it.
Nevertheless, certain characters can still pop into each other's show from time to time. Rosario Dawson's Claire Temple is a constant throughout each Netflix show, while Jones' Danny Rand will have a guest appearance on the second season of Luke Cage for a Heroes for Hire reference to the comics. And a video has been circulating the web of Jessica Henwick's Colleen Wing and Simone Missick's Misty Knight kickin' some butt together.
Speaking of Danny, Loeb also confirmed that Iron Fist's second season will be dropping sometime this year, and hinted that he'll be donning his classic green and yellow suit from the comic books. Remember, Matt Murdock didn't get his classic red uniform until the very end of Season 1 of Daredevil.
Answering some other miscellaneous queries, Loeb revealed that if he could, he'd have Hulk cross over with any of the shows; he'd revive Agent Carter if a network offered to bring it back; and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will always be his special favorite of all the Marvel TV shows, probably because it was the one to open up the MCU on the small screen.
Loeb even answered why we never see Avengers Tower in the Netflix shows: "If you live in NYC you can't see the Empire State Building from every street. So why isn't it possible that our shows take place in a world where it IS there, we just haven't seen it!"
And for the record, Loeb would prefer to fight 100 Ant Man-sized horses over one Hulk-sized duck, citing "a weakness for ducks" because some live in his pool.
