Only a day after Quibi's Don't Look Deeper released the first trailer for the shortform sci-fi series, SYFY WIRE has an exclusive clip from the show showcasing a star whom genre fans will be intimately familiar with: Don Cheadle. The iconic actor has done everything — up to and including participating in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as War Machine. In the new show from director Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight) and showrunner Jeffrey Lieber (Lost), he plays the father/architect of a high schooler that isn't quite human.
Played by Helena Howard, this Westworld-esque teen has plenty of problems that go along with being in high school — and now she's had a big existential bomb dropped on her life ... or whatever passes for life. No wonder she gets into a fight with her dad.
Take a look:
OK, well that's one way to confirm your daughter's a robot. The thin line between ultra-advanced AI and human personality is pushed to the limit here, with Cheadle desperate for his daughter to see code and genetics as two sides of the same coin. Obviously, she doesn't — and that'll have ramifications for everyone involved.
The 14-episode series also stars Emily Mortimer, Ema Horvath, Jan Luis Castellanos, Belissa Escobedo, Kaiwi Lyman, Harvey Zielinski, Harvey Guillen, Brandon Win, Kayleigh Gilbert, and Dana Gourrier.
Don't Look Deeper hits Quibi on July 27.
