Doom Patrol renewed for third season, moves exclusively to HBO Max

Doom Patrol, the oddball DC Universe show that's adapted the surreal comic to live-action, has won over critics and fans during the course of its two seasons. Now fresh off a showing at the DC FanDome online event, we know the series will officially be back for Year 3. Which is good news, especially after that wild cliffhanger finale to Season 2.

The series, featuring a surreal team of heroes undertaking even more surreal adventures, is heading to the newly launched HBO Max streaming service after premiering on DC Universe. DC Universe will now move away from originals — something fans saw coming as the DC shakeup affected many associated with the comics, film, and TV streamer. Other DC Universe originals like Titans, Young Justice, and Harley Quinn are still in the lurch (Stargirl is heading to The CW for its second season) as WarnerMedia and DC figure out next steps. But, at least fans of the Patrol can rest easy knowing they'll see what happens with the Candlemaker.

“Doom Patrol came to HBO Max with an already deep and passionate fan base and has risen to the top as one of the most-watched Max originals on the platform,” said Sarah Aubrey, head of original content, HBO Max. “The series sits well in our portfolio and we are glad to greenlight a third season to continue this distinctive style of storytelling that resonates so well with critics and fans alike.”

Carver, executive producer Chris Dingess, and co-executive producer Tamara Becher-Wilkinson sat down with stars Matt Bomer and Matthew Zuk (Larry Trainor), Diane Guerrero (Crazy Jane), April Bowlby (Rita Farr), Joivan Wade (Cyborg), Timothy Dalton (The Chief), Karen Obilom (Roni Evers), Abigail Shapiro (Dorothy), and Riley Shanahan (one half of Robotman along with Brendan Fraser) to talk about Doom's past and present at the show's DC FanDome panel, in a video that went live soon after the renewal announcement.

Doom Patrol's third season does not yet have a premiere date.
