The adventures of Dr. Horrible and Captain Hammer will continue this fall.. just not in a way a lot of fans might have hoped.
This year marks a decade since the debut of fan-favorite web series Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, and to celebrate, creators Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon, and Maurissa Tancharoen and stars Felicia Day (Penny) and Nathan Fillion (Captain Hammer) gathered with fans in San Diego Comic-Con's Hall H Friday for an anniversary panel. In between discussing the origins of the series as well as its 10-year legacy, Whedon revealed that he's written a new comic book one shot, which will be published later this year by Dark Horse Comics.
Titled Dr. Horrible: Best Friends Forever, the comic will tell the story of what happens when the "time temptress" known as Hourglass finds herself in trouble and seeks help from Dr. Horrible and Captain Hammer... who are somehow best friends. The comic was scripted by Whedon and will feature art from Jose Maria Beroy (Versus) and Sara Soler (Red & Blue).
"What a pleasure it is to be back in this world, putting words into these characters' mouths and saying, 'Say these words, mouths' and then they do," Whedon said in a press release. "Each member of the Hammerverse — sorry, Doc, that's what it's called, he registered it — is a delightful, bigger than life character, but more importantly, on a very human level, they’re idiots. You will thrill to their adventures and weep for their pain, or maybe not weep, maybe just, I don’t know, itchy nose. Based on Actual Events."
To find out exactly why and how Horrible and Hammer have become super best pals, look for Dr. Horrible: Best Friends Forever when it arrives in comic book stores Nov. 14. Check out Fabio Moon's cover for the one shot below.
