Draco Malfoy bringing Ape apocalypse?

While the Deathly Hallows Part 2 trailer looms large in the collective geek consciousness, there's something else out there lurking that's just as dark, just as foreboding, and a great deal... hairier. I speak, of course, of the Planet of the Apes prequel, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, which stars Draco Malfoy himself, Tom Felton.

If you were worried that, after years of playing foil to Harry Potter, Felton was ready to move on from playing bad guys, then worry no more. It seems he may very well be the cause of the evil ape uprising in the first place.

Unsurprisingly, a big part of the conceit for Rise is that there's a reason why our genetic cousins overthrow us. Realism is the name of the game here. We'll let Tom, talking to MTV Movies Blog, explain it himself:

"When Caesar, our lead ape, gets too big for James Franco's character to look after anymore, they have to put him into a facility. Brian Cox, who plays my dad, owns it, and I work there. Needless to say, I'm supposed to be looking after the apes, but I really don't do that job very well. I don't get on well with them and I'm not that friendly with them. I'm kind of what instigates Caesar's revolt against humans. Before that, he only knew James Franco's character. He thought all humans were going to be friendly and nice. It's through my father and my character that he learns the perils of humanity and how bad we really are."

How bad humans really are, eh? Well... we did let Tim Burton's reimagining out into the wild, didn't we? Maybe we should embrace our Ape overlords after all.

What do you think? Are you going to let these damned dirty apes get their paws on you come Aug. 5?
