Dream Casting is an imaginative look at the casting process of potential Hollywood projects based on comics and other media. This isn't just about what is being made; this is about what should be made, and who we think should be the stars.
With the success of Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, it's easy to imagine that Marvel might want to incorporate some of that multiversal Spider-stuff into the live-action MCU. Plus, after the expansiveness of Infinity War and Endgame, other universes seems like the next place things might go.
With that in mind, I've put together a cast for a live-action version of Spider-Gwen, aka the Spider-Woman known as Gwen Stacy. Created by Jason Latour and Robbi Rodriguez, the story takes place in a world where the usual inhabitants of the Marvel Universe are all a little twisted into their own directions. I've had some fun with the casting in that regard. Just like in the comics, there should be some familiar faces making unfamiliar choices.
Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy
Hailee Steinfeld (Bumblebee) doesn't have Gwen's usual look, but she was great as her voice in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and they can give her blonde hair for the movie if that's really important.
Christopher Meloni as Captain Stacy
Christopher Meloni (Man of Steel, Happy!) has experience playing cops, and he can certainly handle the gruff demeanor and underlying heart of Gwen's dad.
Jaz Sinclair as Glory Grant
Jaz Sinclair plays a likable nerd on Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, but she's capable of a lot more glamour, which will come in handy as Gwen's bandmate Glory.
Zendaya as EmJay Watson
I wanted to stick with the alternate Earth concept, so here Zendaya will be a totally different version of the MJ she played in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Peter's MJ is dressed-down and cynical, but Gwen's EmJay is glamorous and confident. Plus Zendaya's actual singing skills will come in handy as the frontwoman of the Mary Janes.
Angourie Rice as Betty Brant
Angourie Rice also played Betty Brant in Homecoming, but here she'll have a total rock-n-roll makeover, black bob and all.
Justice Smith as Randy Robertson
Justice Smith (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) has an air of seriousness about him, especially for his age, that will serve him well as Randy Robertson, rock-n-roll reporter.
Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock
Charlie Cox played a hero on Marvel's Daredevil, but this Murdock is a coldblooded killer, which will be a fascinating challenge for Cox.
Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle
Similarly, this universe's Frank Castle is a cop instead of a vigilante, but Jon Bernthal (Marvel's The Punisher) is still perfectly suited for the part.
Kathleen Rose Perkins as Jean DeWolff
Kathleen Rose Perkins (Colony) is really good at playing determined and strong-willed women, which is just right for Detective DeWolff.
Rutina Wesley as Captain America
In Spider-Gwen's world, Captain America is a black woman named Samantha Wilson, and Rutina Wesley (True Blood, Queen Sugar) is just the actor to play this sentinel of liberty.
