Dream Casting is an imaginative look at the casting process of potential Hollywood projects based on comics and other media. This isn't just about what is being made; this is about what should be made, and who we think should be the stars.
Wuvable Oaf is an indie comic from Ed Luce, published by Fantagraphics. It's the story of an enormous ex-wrestler who makes dolls, cares for cats, and looks for love amidst the gay hardcore music scene of San Francisco.
It would be more of an indie film than a mainstream blockbuster, but a Wuvable Oaf film could be a lot of fun and shine some light on a unique and underserved segment of the LGBTQ community. Find a gay director who understands the material, give it a killer soundtrack, and we might even have a crossover hit.
Paul Wight as Wuvable Oaf
At seven feet tall, wrestler/actor Paul "Big Show" Wight will be as unique a leading man as the Oaf is a protagonist. He looms over everyone like a giant but he has the range to express the character's sensitivity and sweetness.
Brendon Urie as Eiffel
The Panic at the Disco singer will need a scruffy makeover to look the part but his build is the perfect contrast with Wight's and his musical experience will come in handy, even if Eiffel's band is much more hardcore than his.
David Hyde Pierce as Lil Papa
David Hyde Pierce (Frasier) is a comedy legend at this point, and he''l be a grounding presence in the movie as Oaf's adoptive father.
Jason Statham as Hamm
Aside from how much he resembles the character in the comic, playing a very intense gay celebrity chef will be a fun departure from the the roles Jason Statham (The Meg) usually gets to play.
Guillermo Diaz as Troffie
Guillermo Diaz (Scandal) has that combination of a gruff appearance and internal warmth that's important for a lot of the characters in this movie, including Troffie.
Heidi Gardner as Debbie
Heidi Gardner (Saturday Night Live) will bring something unique to one of the few women in Oaf's world.
Jonathan Van Ness as Lemay
Jonathan Van Ness (Queer Eye) brings the same fun, upbeat energy to everything he does and he's a dead ringer for T-shirt artist Lemay.
