If you’re a huge Dungeons & Dragons fan, but sometimes you just find it too darn taxing on the imagination, we may have the perfect video game solution.
Why dream up all your favorite warriors and their magical foes when you can just let the world of D&D come alive before your eyes with the all-new mobile game Warriors of Waterdeep?
Video game developer Ludia is teaming up with role-playing game makers and Hasbro subsidiary Wizards of the Coast to bring the preeminent fantasy game to life.
“We are thrilled to be partnering with Wizards of the Coast on such an enduring and wildly popular entertainment franchise,” said Alex Thabet, CEO of Ludia, in a statement. “It’s important to us that our game stays true to the Dungeons & Dragons storytelling ethos and the Forgotten Realms fantasy setting.”
Forgotten Realms refers to the classic D&D campaign setting known as “The Realms,” created by game designer Ed Greenwood back in the ‘60s.
As you can see in the trailer above, “when danger threatens Waterdeep, Laeral Silverhand summons warriors.” Which is where you come in: Pick from a number of warriors, including Laeral herself, Open Lord of Waterdeep, then choose your weapons and your path, which is likely going to be full of ogres “who may be lazy and stupid, but they’re quick to crush anyone who treats them that way.”
Alas, ogres are the least of your fantastical worries, as epic battles with skeletons, giants, dragons, and more ensue. Fortunately, to the victors go the spoils of great rewards.
You can enter the Warriors of Waterdeep realm beginning with a soft release this spring. No 20-sided die required.
