Here's the first trailer for New Line Cinema's Richter-rattling earthquake movie starring Dwayne Johnson as a heroic rescue pilot trying to evade the trembling earth while saving citizens from being crushed like crepes.  Directed by Brad Peyton (Journey 2: The Mysterious Island), San Andreas does sport some spiffy digital effects of widespread California destruction alongside a painfully predictable plot.

Here's the official synopsis:

After the infamous San Andreas Fault finally gives, triggering a magnitude 9 earthquake in California, a search and rescue helicopter pilot (Dwayne Johnson) and his estranged wife make their way together from Los Angeles to San Francisco to save their only daughter.  But their treacherous journey north is only the beginning. And when they think the worst may be’s just getting started.

No matter how many times we've seen the Hollywood sign crumble atop its hill, it still translates into an ominous signal to moviegoers that things are REALLY bad ... or REALLY boring.  Earthquake films are severely limited in their storytelling capacities, but this might end up being an engaging, action-oriented diversion when it strikes next year, and the presence of the Rock never hurts.

At the very least, plan on seeing lots of skyscrapers toppling to the ground -- and who doesn't enjoy that?!  San Andreas opens in 3D on May 29, 2015, and also stars Archie Panjabi, Ioan Gruffudd, Will Yun Lee, Colton Haynes and Kylie Minogue.

Are you interested in seeing the Rock shaken to the core?
