Dwayne Johnson is no stranger to action franchises. They're his bread and butter. We knew it was only a matter of time before he'd join the Marvel or DC Cinematic Universe, and Johnson went with the latter and teased his potential character for what seemed like ages.

Last year, it was confirmed that he would play Black Adam in the live-action Shazam! movie. This was a surprise to some, who assumed he would take on the film's title role. As a matter of fact, the actor seemed to bounce between the two before making a final decision. So, what gives? How did Black Adam win out over Shazam?

In a recent interview, Johnson revealed that Black Adam's story was just more of a draw. "I felt ultimately, and this is with all due respect to Shazam/Billy Batson, it's a mythology that I love; it's been with me for almost ten years now; what made me choose Black Adam? I just felt Black Adam was inherently more interesting to me because I felt there were more layers to Black Adam starting out as a slave and then ultimately becoming the anti-hero who we enjoy today."

Do you agree with his decision? Will it be more fun for the Rock to play a darker character, as opposed to a straight-up superhero?

Shazam! is scheduled to hit theaters April 5, 2019.
