For some of our fellow geeks unfamiliar with Critical Role, it’s an awesome web series produced by Geek & Sundry which sees a group of professional nerdy voice actors embarking on an ongoing Dungeons & Dragons campaign every week. Live. They are led by Matthew Mercer (the voice of Leon S. Kennedy in the Resident Evil video games) who serves as the show’s Dungeon Master.
Every Thursdays, fans follow Laura Bailey, Liam O'Brien, Marisha Ray, Sam Riegel, Taliesin Jaffe and Travis Willingham who join together to jump boots first into a new D&D adventure, lending their considerable vocal talents (most of them have worked in animation and/or video games) to breathe life into their characters.
Over the years, the Geek & Sundry web series (which kicked off in 2015) featured some notable guest-stars in Geek Queen Felicia Day, Wil Wheaton (Star Trek: The Next Generation), Chris Hardwick (Talking Dead), Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite), Joe Manganiello (True Blood) and, most recently, The Walking Dead’s Khary Payton (Ezekiel).
Two of Critical Role’s D&D players/cast members, Willingham and Bailey, were on hand during this weekend’s Emerald City Comic Con where they came by SYFY WIRE’s Live Stage (which we live stream). The dynamic husband and wife duo talked with us about their awesome fan experiences, what it’s actually like having Matt Mercer as Dungeon Master, and being stuck in character. Sometimes in the weirdest of places.
Critical Role is broadcast live on Thursdays at 7:00 p.m. PT on Geek & Sundry’s Twitch channel, YouTube channel and Project Alpha. It is then made available on Geek & Sundry’s website the following Monday.
