Though its spawned some direct-to-DVD sequels, nothing has really matched the sheer insanity of Eli Roth’s 2002 gorefest Cabin Fever. Now it sounds like the studio is going back to the beginning.

Bloody Disgusting is reporting that a remake of the original film is in the works with producers Cassian Elwes (Lawless, Dallas Buyers Club) and Evan Astrowsky (Cabin Fever, Fanboys) at the helm. No word on Roth’s potential involvement.

The original film was a nice spin on the classic cabin-in-the-woods trope, following a group of five college graduates who begin to fall victim to a horrifying flesh-eating virus, which attracts the attention of the homicidal locals. That film starred Jordan Ladd, Rider Strong, James DeBello and Cerina Vincent.

It was disgusting as hell and almost as entertaining, in that classic Eli Roth way. We’re glad to hear it might get another shot at big-screen glory, but we definitely hope they’ll find a way to wrangle Roth back into the equation.

Are you glad to hear Cabin Fever could be catching once again?
