Moviehole confirms a rumor, first reported by FEARnet, that Elisabeth Shue will star in Alex Aja's upcoming Piranha remake.

The site reports that the "deal is as good as done," citing two anonymous sources on the 3-D movie.

Shue will reportedly playing the role of Sheriff Julie Forester, a take-charge authority figure in the community of Lake Victoria, where the action/ankle-biting takes place. She's the mother of Jake (one of the central characters in the film, the shy teenager who gets to prove his worth when human-eating fish threaten his family and friends), Laura and Zane.

The 45-year-old actress has mixed serious dramatic roles (Leaving Las Vegas) with more commercial fare (Hollow Man, Cocktail).
