There’s no question that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is crying out for some female-fronted superhero movies, but sadly it doesn’t seem as though the Scarlet Witch will be working her magic on one anytime soon.
Elizabeth Olsen has revealed in a chat with the podcast Everything Iconic with Danny Pellegrino (via CBR) that she has no inclination to star in a spin-off movie, and even hints that the studio doesn’t seem to be particularly interested in the idea of one either.
“We are at ground zero,” Olsen answered, when she was asked where they were at with plans for a spinoff project. “It’s definitely not something I’m pushing. I don’t know if it’s something they’re going to push either.”
However, Olsen did say that she would be open to a Netflix show focusing on her and love interest Vision (played by Paul Bettany), revealing: “Paul Bettany and I joke about having a domestic television show on Netflix or something (laughs). It would just be like a house event, where Scarlet Witch goes bananas. That’s what we joke about, but I don’t think either of those things are happening. I’m happy I’m still around and they still use me.”
We definitely feel that there would be plenty to explore in a Wanda Maximoff origin movie should it get a green light, and it seems sad that Olsen appears to be so certain that it’s a no-go. We're still waiting with bated breath for Marvel's first female-fronted solo film, Captain Marvel, which isn’t due for release until another year, and we’re definitely not giving up hope on the long-overdue Black Widow solo movie either.
It was revealed earlier this year that Marvel had signed rising female screenwriter Jac Schaeffer for script duty for the Natasha Romanoff standalone, which is exciting. So perhaps they could at least throw Scarlet Witch a nice spellbinding cameo in there.
