One of the most exciting things about the lead-up to Star Wars: The Force Awakens is all the content Disney and Lucasfilm are releasing under what's been called "Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens." That includes books, comics, and now a DLC package for the upcoming Star Wars: Battlefront.
As we heard over the summer, the DLC -- dubbed "The Battle of Jakku" -- will depict a key battle between the Rebellion and the Empire that takes place after The Battle of Endor (29 years before The Force Awakens, to be exact). The Emperor and Darth Vader are dead, the Empire is crippled, but they're still putting up a hell of a fight, and they're doing it on a planet that will play a key role in The Force Awakens (Rey lives there, and Finn crashes there, for starters).
We already knew that the DLC would tell the story of how that massive Star Destroyer crashed into the planet's desert surface, and that alone is exciting. Now, a new teaser for the Battle of Jakku shows us a little more. In the footage, you're a Rebel soldier (or at least, it seems you are based on who you interact with) who's apparently just landed on the planet amid absolute carnage. Bodies are in the sand, fighter parts are strewn everywhere, and overhead, you'll notice a familiar ship. Check it out:
Star Wars: Battlefront arrives November 17. The Battle of Jakku DLC arrives free to everyone December 8, or on December 1 if you pre-order. Either way, you'll have plenty of time to experience the battle before The Force Awakens arrives on December 18.
