Despite 2009’s Dragonball: Evolution, fans of the Dragonball Z franchise are still waiting for a good interpretation of the franchise in live action. Now a group of fans are taking it upon themselves.

The studio Robot Underdog is developing an unofficial fan pilot dubbed Dragon Ball Z: Light of Hope, and a new trailer for the project has arrived online. Admittedly, the acting is a bit cheesy, but the effects are surprisingly solid. The trailer is loaded with action — so much that it doesn’t leave much room for story — and it doesn’t look bad.

To be honest, it really has a lower-budget Man of Steel vibe going on. The team plans to adapt the “History of Trunks” storyline for the pilot, which is set to be released soon. The creators claim they'll stick extremely close to the canon, so it should (hopefully) please fans. The first episode will serve as a pilot for a potential web series, so if the episode is a hit, there could be even more Light of Hope on the way.
