We apologize for interrupting your yuletide celebrations on Christmas, but the Weyland-Yutani Corporation isn't too fond of merrymaking.
Be afraid and brace yourself for the first raw, red-band trailer for Ridley Scott's Alien: Covenant, revealing the ill-fated mission to the Engineer's home planet and its dire consequences. Filled with a flood of compelling imagery that only the visionary filmmaker can concoct, this initial footage comes mere days after a series of online teaser images of combat soldiers, stasis pods aboard the colony ship, and a familiar hallway inside an Engineer's ship.
This initial trailer is short on plot but is a visual assault on your eggnog-addled senses, with harrowing scenes of frantic running, gasping and screaming down claustrophobic spaceship corridors, atmospheric glimpses of the Engineer's home planet, the sticky familiarity of the ovomorph egg pods, uncuddly facehuggers, a spine-burster sequence that'll cause you to choke on a candy cane and the best bloody shower scene since Psycho. It's eerie, ominous and carries the rancid rind of sheer terror of the original Alien that may be difficult to wash off.
Refresh yourself with the official 20th Century Fox synopsis:
Headed toward a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew members of the colony ship Covenant discover what they believe to be an uncharted paradise, but it is actually a dark, menacing world in which the only inhabitant is the synthetic David (Michael Fassbender), a survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.
Directed by Sir Ridley Scott from a screenplay by Jack Paglen (Transcendence) and Michael Green (Green Lantern), Alien: Covenant stars Michael Fassbender, Guy Pearce, Noomi Rapace, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, Demian Bichir and James Franco.
