It's October 11. That's two ones standing tall next to each other. That's a duo. And, if you think about it, our podcast, Every Day Horror, is just two ones standing together, pronouncing to the world that they love scary movies.
And today my podcast partner is none other than the associate editor at SYFY Fangrrls, Courtney Enlow. She brought along Drag Me to Hell (2009), a Sam Raimi-directed feature that hearkens back to his Evil Dead days.
Do you like bodily fluids? Hi. Drag Me to Hell is the film for you! A lover of sacrificial goats? This is the movie you need, friend! Ever want to see a nice blonde lady contemplate murdering a sweet kitten for her own desperate purpose? Congrats, the motion picture of your dreams has arrived!
One important note: Drag Me to Hell does use a slur as it relates to certain nomadic European peoples. Drag Me To Hell does involve a specific type of older woman placing on another person a specific type of curse. So if you are offended by the g-word and all its trappings, that's something to keep in mind.
But otherwise, Courtney and I have a LOT to say about Drag Me to Hell, its place in the Raimi ouvre, its hidden messages, and a certain other film that it was clearly influenced by. Is it really about eating disorders? Only one way to find out: Listen!
