It's October 17. That's a minimum of 17 horror movies so far this month. Although, if you're anything like me, that number is already a lot bigger. And there's not a lot bigger in modern horror than the found footage genre.
Today, the Every Day Horror podcast is joined by Joe Bandelli, the producer of one of my favorite found footage series, Hell House LLC. But what we're talking about is Paranormal Activity, the movie that ushered in the true beginning of the found footage genre. Sure, The Blair Witch Project is the movie that made us believe a horror movie could be real, but it was Paranormal Activity that made the whole enterprise really franchise-able.
And over a decade later, it turns out Paranormal Activity holds up! It's almost like Oren Peli knew what he was doing! Now, whether or not every movie in the franchise retains that potency... well, that's another story.
But Paranormal Activity's influence over horror is undeniably profound. What makes it great? What do we see in horror movies today that Paranormal Activity started? The only way to find out is to listen!
