Sorry, Obi-Wan fans, but a standalone film for the beloved Jedi Master isn't currently in the works at Lucasfilm... at least as far as Ewan McGregor knows. The actor appeared on The View to promote Disney's Christopher Robin and was asked about the possible Star Wars spin-off.
“There’s no plans, as such, as far as I know," he said, although it wasn't with a bitter attitude in any way. On the contrary, he's totally gung-ho for stepping back into the role of old Ben Kenobi and believes there's a tale that is yet to be told.
“I would totally do it, of course … I’d be happy to do it. There must be a good story to tell, as they’re doing spin-offs. There’s likely to be a good Obi-Wan [story] between me and Alec Guinness."
It would be so easy to make a movie about Obi-Wan's time spent on Tatooine while watching over young Luke Skywalker. Marvel even chronicled the character's post-Revenge of the Sith exploits via journal entries that were written by Jason Aaron. Morever, McGregor, 47, is at the perfect age for a prequel to A New Hope, which would be set around 20 years beforehand.
“I’ve answered yes so many times, it looks like I’m sort of touting for work at Disney’s door," McGregor joked.
A report as recent as June stated that an Obi-Wan movie could be saved for Disney's upcoming streaming service. Sadly, the performance of Solo put all of Lucasfilm's anthology projects on indefinite hold.
