With Han Solo getting his own spinoff movie in 2018 with Alden Ehrenreich starring as the titular space smuggler, fans are eagerly anticipating news of a Star Wars film featuring Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Played by Alec Guinness in the original Star Wars trilogy, the character was brought to life by Ewan McGregor in the prequel movies. The Scottish actor was arguably one of the best things the prequels had going for them (I thought McGregor was awesome in the role), along with Darth Maul, who was killed off way too early, sadly enough.
George Lucas’ final Star Wars movies were without a doubt a huge disappointment to moviegoers everywhere and fans have had to wait until J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens for the Force to be back with the beloved franchise set in a galaxy far, far away.
In a recent interview with French magazine Premiere (translated by the good folks over at Den of Geek) for his movie American Pastoral, McGregor said he’d be open to bring Obi-Wan’s story to the big screen (even though no one’s approached him yet).
“I’ve always thought there was a story to tell between my last one and Alec Guinness’ first one. It would be fun to film that story now I’m older, I’d be the right age. I’m forty-five, Alec Guinness was what, sixty? I could do two of them (laughs)! I hope that they’re going to explore different genres under the Star Wars banner. And one of those could be an Obi-Wan Kenobi feature film. Or two! The Obi-Wan Kenobi Story Part 1 and Part 2!”
Count me in! What do you guys think?
