Attention fans of Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey and the two short-lived Bill & Ted TV shows: Keanu Reeves has announced (mild) progress on that third Bill & Ted movie he's trying to make.

Reeves, who appeared on the BBC talk show The Graham Norton Show to promote his most recent film, John Wick 2, described its plot:

"There's a cool story, they're supposed to write a song to save the world, and they haven't done that … But then someone comes from the future and tells them if they don't write the song, it's not the world now, it's the universe. So they have to save the universe because time is breaking apart."

I'm popping the popcorn for this right now. The Bill & Ted films — stealth sci-fi films disguised as teen comedies — were genuinely funny, centering on Bill (Alex Winter) and Ted (Reeves), underachieving high school students who are destined to unite the world with their music. Of course, they're currently underachieving musicians … with a time machine. The situations are absurd (our protagonists don't play chess with Death, they play Battleship) and the dialogue is delivered with a deadpan sincerity ("Who is Joan of Arc?" "Noah's wife?")

Reeves has also described the movie as, "It would be Bill and Ted in their 50s, that just makes me laugh right there." Dude, that is righteous.

But strange things are afoot with this production. Reeves has been mentioning this film since 2010 and still there's been no talk of a shooting schedule. Bogus.

Hollywood, be excellent to Reeves and give him a budget. And then we can all party on.
