It was only announced a day ago, but we already have a look at some pages from Image Comics’ newest series, The Realm, by Seth M. Peck and Jeremy Haun. The comic book mashes up two unlikely genres—high fantasy and post-apocalypse—to bring readers a uniquely magical view of the end of the world, and beyond.
Here’s the official synopsis from the publisher:
Fifteen years ago, our world was overrun by creatures of myth; orcs, dragons, and other nameless horrors threw the entire planet into total chaos. Today, the shattered remnants of civilization must fight just to survive in a deadly new era of violence and mayhem. While a powerful sorcerer marshals his forces, a group of warriors embark on a journey to reclaim our world from the growing darkness. An all new post-apocalyptic high-fantasy adventure series!
The pages in our preview below don’t reveal the fantasy creatures quite yet, but they do give us an idea of the type of world that the humans are living in. And, like many classic post-apocalyptic tales, it appears that the humans themselves may very well be the most dangerous creatures around, as we’re introduced to our protagonist, the jaded Nolan, and his shady and probably temporary employer, “King.”
It looks like The Realm will waste no time getting exciting when it arrives in comic shops on September 13th, but you can judge for yourself by taking a look at the gallery below, which features a cover by Walking Dead artist Tony Moore, as well as one by Jeremy Haun. Interiors are all drawn by Haun with colors from Nick Filardi and letters by Thomas Mauer. And be sure to let us know if you’ll be adding The Realm to your pull list in the comments at the bottom of the page.
