If you're a fan of young adult fantasy novels, then we have quite the treat to announce for you.
Dhonielle Clayton, author of the recent hit novel The Belles, and Zoraida Córdova, author of the Brooklyn Brujas series (the most recent of which, Bruja Born, releases on June 5) are going on an epic tour . . . together.
It's a YA tour-de-force that is called the Belles & Brujas Tour.
They'll hit 13 different cities in the United States, and we can already tell it's going to be one for the history books.
Clayton is the COO of We Need Diverse Books, an organization that promotes the importance of representation in children's literature. Her most recent book The Belles was published by Disney/Freeform. Córdova's Brooklyn Brujas series, the first of which is Labyrinth Lost, is published by Sourcebooks and was optioned by Paramount Pictures last year. Both The Belles and Bruja Born deal with similar coming-of-age themes, with girls who have access to magic and the power to change things as a result.
Not only will you get the chance to see these two authors in their full glory (an opportunity you shouldn't miss), but you'll have the opportunity to see some amazing guest authors on tour with them. Julie C. Dao (The Forest of a Thousand Lanterns), Justina Ireland (Dread Nation), Nicola Yoon (Everything, Everything), Julie Murphy (Dumplin'), Tessa Gratton (The Queens of Innis Lear), and V. E. Schwab (A Darker Shade of Magic) are just a few of the amazing authors who will be joining Clayton and Córdova on their Belles and Brujas tour. Anyone who attends one of these events can expect raffles, prizes, and swag you won't be able to get your hands on anywhere else. This will include We Need Diverse Books swag bags with early copies of eagerly anticipated books that haven't even hit shelves yet.
It's not just about the book tour, though. Clayton and Córdova are personal friends, and they want to give something back. They're planning on visiting juvenile facilities for at-risk girls on their tour stops. They will also donate 10 percent of their sales during the tour to We Need Diverse Books. “We want to be able to share whatever bit of hope we can. There’s power in words,” said Córdova. “We want this tour to be fun and exciting for everyone. But we also want to contribute to change,” added Clayton.
